October 6, 2008: Day 36: (5 weeks old today!)

How time flies; Aidan turns 5 weeks old today and he is doing wonderfully. Thinking back to his days in the level 3 NICU, under the bilirubin lights, wrapped in plastic, seems like months ago. Remember these images...

I forgot to mention that yesterday they took Aidan off caffeine. Up until yesterday, they gave Aidan caffeine every day at 2pm. Sort of like his morning coffee. Premature babies get caffeine to help avoid bradycardia heart rate spells, and help avoid apnea spells where they forget to breathe. They will keep Aidan off the caffeine as long as he doesn't have an increase in heart and breathing spells.

Monday night is bath night, and tonight was no exception:

Aidan now weighs 1602 grams (3 lbs 8.5 oz), up 19 grams from yesterday.

PS: Have I mentioned yet that Denyse has developed a hernia? If everything she has gone through is not enough, the muscles from her c-section did not fully heal above her belly button and have a small hole that did not close. She will need to have hernia surgery in the next few weeks to have this fixed. She sees the surgeon on Thursday.
